3RD ANNUAL ROBB’S METALWORKS SHOWCASE

 

The summer is quickly approaching here in 2005 & in San Antonio that means that one of the most heralded & revered underground metal shows across Texas is coming upon us.  From San Antonio’s Longest Standing METAL Institution, ROBB’S METALWORKS comes the '3rd Annual Robb’s MetalWorks Showcase'.  With the 2004 Showcase being proclaimed as a historic event with the legendary WATCHTOWER leading the mayhem & attracting over 500 fans from across the state & country to attendance, this years event has a lot to measure up to.  However, in the hearts & minds of the RMW Faithful, there is no need to worry, as Robb Chavez, host/creator/producer of Robb’s MetalWorks, is a meticulous planner having begun working on logistics for the ’05 Showcase without the year even having yet begun.

 

From initial leaked reports on Blabbermouth.net (& various other websites) to the overwhelming mouth to mouth network which is the lifeline of underground metal much has already been speculated about this year’s Showcase from who’s performing to who the much privileged sponsors were.  As hand picked bands were confirmed to perform more & more information leaked into the market.  As in 2004 TEXASMETALUNDERGROUND.COM has the distinguished pleasure of setting the record straight by delivering the FIRST official press release regarding the 3rd Annual RMW Showcase.

 

Below are various topics & their respective details for components of the Showcase.

 

LINE UP & TIMES:

 

SOLITUDE AETURNUS

 

  

Headlining the 3rd RMW Showcase are non-other than Arlington, Texas, doom legends, SOLITUDE AETURNUS.  Formed in the Spring of 1987, Solitude Aeturnus has been pummeling souls with their unique blend of ultra heavy, slow & melodic riffs having created & cultivated the sounds which today is referred to as 'doom metal'.  Early ’99 saw the band release their much acclaimed 'Adagio' release via Olympic/Polygram & not having played a south Texas gig since their appearance at  the 2001 'Bang Your Head' show  in Houston, the time has come for Solitude Aeturnus to rear is menacing face back on the scene.  This is also a very exciting time for Solitude Aeturnus as the band is on the brink of releasing their 7th full length release, aptly titled 'Alone'.  Working hand in hand with founder/guitarist, John Perez, Robb took great pleasure in gaining the bands commitment for what is sure to be a stellar & not often witnessed performance by one of Texas Metal’s most coveted bands.  Solitude Aeturnus will hit the stage at 12:15am & will play till their heart’s content pulling the most popular tracks from all their releases.  For more info on the band go to: http://www.eternalsolitude.com/

 

ETERNITY BLACK

 

  

 

In direct support of Solitude Aeturnus will be a new band, representing the Houston metal scene, comprised of seasoned musicians,…the band making big waves across the nation now,…ETERNITY BLACK.  Led by former Helstar guitarists, Larry Barragan & Robert Trevino, Eternity Black is sure to capture the imaginations of metalheads at the 3rd RMW Showcase, as the band is delivering a unique blend of forceful, headbanging riffage.  However, with the distinguished vocals of Ryan McKnight leading the charge, Eternity Black will undoubtedly find their base of fans here in San Antonio rather quickly.  For some of you ‘ol schoolers, please note that Eternity Black is not a Helstar replica, rather a great collaboration of the technicality of the past with the fast-tempoed groove of the new millennium.  The 3rd RMW Showcase will be Eternity Black’s first gig outside of its native Houston & truly at no better time & at no better event.  The band just released their first 5-song demo, which can be heard at www.eternityblack.com & surely purchased at the Showcase.  The band is also currently receiving much European press in support of the demo having just completed an interview with Greece’s, Rockpages (www.rockpages.gr). With the integrity behind a band like Eternity Black – you cannot afford to miss their set.  They hit the stage from: 11pm to 11:45pm.

 

THE RUINED FEW

 

  

 

Smack in the middle of the line up is a San Antonio based band, also new in nature but neck deep in experience.  Out of the ashes,…original guitarist & co-founder of the band Las Cruces, Mark Lopez has reemerged in an invigorating outfit called, THE RUINED FEW.  The Ruined Few first hit the San Antonio scene in 2003 & were quickly covered on an episode of Robb’s MetalWorks, as Mark has continued to create some of the city’s most memorable riffs & songs.  Later this summer the band will release its first full length cd, entitled “Blacktooth Rising”, so having them as part of the 3rd RMW Showcase is an opportune time to share them with the masses across Texas.  You can hear some of the songs off their upcoming demo at www.myspace.com/theruinedfew. The Ruined Few will hit the stage from: 9:55pm to 10:40pm.

 

D-RAILED

 

  

 

As one of only two San Antonio bands on this year’s Showcase trust when I say the competition from bands in the Alamo city was fierce for the opportunity to perform at the 3rd RMW Showcase.  With the addition of the band D-RAILED, it’s quite easy to see that Robb recognizes hard work, ethic, motivation & just 'good people' as much as he does a helluva metal song.  D-Railed having long been a RMW favorite & having really generated a solid, grass-roots following in San Antonio based around their sonic, brutal assault of songs, was almost a no-brainer for this year’s Showcase after having seen their meteoric rise through the ranks.  The band released their first full length cd in 2004 & is now currently continuing to write in hopes that new material from the band will see the light of day by Fall ’05.  Visit www.d-railed.net to hear some of those songs.  D-Railed will hit the stage from: 8:50pm – 9:35pm.

   

BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY

 

  

 

Opening up the Showcase this year will be a young, but very promising band out of the Austin scene called, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.  Robb first discovered this band in late ’04 as the Crew was invited to Lucy’s in San Marcos to catch their set.  What was unveiled was an aggression & mighty combination of thrash & death metal unlike any previously witnessed by such young musicians.  This band truly holds within its grasp a formidable career should they persevere.  Barely on the heels of a 3-song demo, there is plenty of guitar shred for metal fans of all genres.  Be sure to arrive to the 3rd RMW Showcase early enough to catch this band’s set & witness with ‘ahh’ the future of metal here in Texas.  Visit www.bamnmetal.com to hear the brutality.  BAMN is the first band to hit the stage at: 7:50pm – 8:30pm.

GIVEAWAYS:

 

Because this event is for the fans & viewers of Robb’s MetalWorks, being made available at this 3rd Annual RMW Showcase will be 3 separate 'give-aways' for the fans.

 

1.  For the first 50 paying fans through the door you will receive a FREE commemorative RMW 3rd Annual Showcase t-shirt.      These shirts will be black & have the RMW caricature & Showcase date on the front.  On the back will be a logo listing of the bands performing.  This will truly be a nice souvenir piece.

 

2.  RMW will be giving away a FREE Sam-Ash guitar.  As fans enter the event they will have the opportunity to drop their name into a drawing.  Right before Solitude Aeturnus performs Robb will personally be drawing the name & calling out the winner’s name on stage.

 

3.  Finally, from the same drawing Robb will be drawing a 2nd name.  The 2nd drawing will be for a full 24x36 full color poster of the 3rd RMW Showcase, which will be autographed by all the bands.  There will only be one of these in existence.

 

MERCHANDISE:

 

Fans in attendance please remember to bring some extra cash, as ALL bands will have merchandise available from their respective cds/demos to t-shirts to stickers, etc.  Be on the lookout for their merch tables inside the venue.

 

Also available will be 30 commemorative RMW Showcase t-shirts for $10 each,….just in case you were not one of the first 50 through the door.  You may STILL need to arrive early to the event, as these 30 shirts I’m sure will sell pretty fast.  Then, that will be it,…these shirts will never see the light of day again.

 

PRE-SALE TICKETS:

 

Because there will be many fans coming in from outside San Antonio, RMW always makes ‘pre-sale’ tickets available for purchase.  If you would like to purchase tickets now for this Showcase, please just email RMW at ccfp@satx.rr.com.   The price of presale tickets are the same at $10.  This may be a great idea, as I anticipate this show to sell out.  With the Fire Marshall's office coming down on San Antonio venues as of late, Sam’s Burger Joint will be keeping a watchful eye on capacity.  Don’t get left out & get your tickets now!!

 

CAMERAS:

 

Because the 3rd RMW Showcase is an exclusive RMW event & shoot, there will NOT be any video cameras allowed inside the event.  So, we please ask that you not violate this rule, as security will escort you out of the venue if you are found in violation.  However we DO invite everyone to bring in their still cameras to take as many photos of the event, bands, friends & family in attendance.

 

PUBLICITY:

 

Be sure to look for an official advertisement of this event in the April 14th ‘Best Of’ edition of the SAN ANTONIO CURRENT for your brothers in arms perhaps who do not get online.  Please refer them to this ad.  Also,…in the near future please plan to read a ‘write-up’ on the 3rd RMW Showcase in bi-cultural mag, CONEXION and in San Antonio’s up 'n coming new rock mag, RAWK RAG.

 

Finally, if you would like to listen to songs from any of the bands playing the Showcase call Rusty Leal of the Thursday Night Metal Show on 90.1 KSYM.  He is a staunch supporter of the 3rd RMW Showcase & will gladly turn their music on to you.  Just as a reminder his show airs on FM 90.1 on Thursday from 11pm – 1am.
