Warlock was formed in 1981 by brothers Jerry and David Warden. Casey Orr and Hardin Harrison, both later of Rigor Mortis, were also part of the original lineup. The band went on a brief hiatus in 1982 while Harrison played in Eruption, which was one of the Metroplex's earliest metal acts alongside Pantera and Boss Tweed. Kirby Meggs, who had been the guitarist in Jerry Warden's first band Megaton, was added in 1982 as second guitarist. By the time Hardin returned from his stint with Eruption, Meggs was gone and Rick Perry was brought on board in the middle of 1983. Orr and Harrison left in 1983 after a fight between Harrison and David Warden.

As was the norm for hard rock and metal bands in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in the early 1980's, Warlock started out playing covers of popular rock/metal tunes. Unsatisfied with the cover scene, the band quickly evolved into playing full sets of original metal that attracted an instant fan base.  Between 1982 and 1986 the band was able to release two demos, the first of which is represented below.  The second Warlock demo from 1986, featured a much more aggressive sound and was a preview of the sound that would eventually become Gammacide's trademark.  Several of the songs from the second Warlock demo were actually reworked and played live by Gammacide for many years.
